With online shopping increasing there is so much packaging that needed to protect the items during transit. Indeed, between a quarter and a third of all domestic waste is packaging.
We have a blue recycling bin at home and by the end of the first week it’s probably three quarters full. We attempt to limit what we buy but even still it’s tough and it’s disheartening throwing something away that was only ever used once.
We started the 'Bag for life' scheme about three months ago. This entailed the customer buying a fabric product bag for £2 and if they decided to send it back we would refund them 10% of their original order value. It's gone great and I'd say about 80 percent of bags are being returned and I have to say I love refunding you for doing this!
However, and rightly so, there was always an option to have items despatched in the plastic ziplock bag too. Although I've had customers saying how useful these bags are, there is no doubt many of these will now be in landfill and this doesn't lie easy with me. That is why we have now taken the decision to expand the 'Return your Bag Scheme' to include the plastic ziplock bags too; why not, they have plenty of life in them! My intention is that every time we have one returned we'll add a little mark to it so that we can see how many times it has been used - I like doing odd stuff like this!
HOW DOES IT WORK?
We now give you an option at checkout to either have your items packed in a zip-lock plastic bag as normal (which can be reused), or for an extra £2.00 you can buy a fabric bag for life. The bag for life is made from recycled plastic. Now onto the incentives:-
1. Choose the plastic ziplock bag and send them all back to us and we'll reimburse you 5% of your order value. One return per order.
2. Pay £2.00 at checkout and purchase a fabric bag for life and we'll reimburse you with 10% of your order value. One return per order.
Why 10% for the fabric bag? It's simply because they are more robust and we'll be able to keep re-using them for a longer duration.
The bags must be sent back to us within 15 days of receipt of goods for the cashback to apply.
A maximum refund amount of £10 will apply and shipping costs are not included in the calculation.
Some examples:-
You chose the plastic ziplock bag - 5% cashback
Your purchases total £65 you were entitled free shipping - Refund £3.25
Your purchases total £35 and you pay £3.50 shipping - Refund £1.75
Your purchases total £220 and you were entitled free shipping - Refund £10
You chose the fabric bag for life - 10% cashback
Your purchases total £65 you were entitled free shipping - Refund £6.50
Your purchases total £35 and you pay £3.50 shipping - Refund £3.50
Your purchases total £220 and you were entitled free shipping - Refund £10
So in all parcels you will see a Bag Returns Form with this little note from me:
